Insights of Indian Healthcare system

Following are my insights on how the Indian Healthcare system is functioning. I will start by providing a bird eye view of the system.

Bird Eye View

•Universal healthcare system – No patients are rejected for want of money. (Government hospitals, never charge money for nearly 99% treatments.)
•Healthcare is a concurrent subject – Both state and federal governments are responsible for betterment of people.
•Government’s expenditure on Healthcare is less than 3% of GDP.
•Opened for private sector participation during the economic reforms of 1992.
•Less than 15% of people are insured where as more than 80% of people have  access to telephone.
•Indian pharmaceutical industry is matured enough with government support supplying cheap generic versions of major drugs lowering the cost of healthcare.
•Indian origin doctors constitute the vast majority in numbers, in much acclaimed NHS of UK.
•All forms of medicine like ayurvedic, allopathy and Unani are encouraged by Government.
•Known as diabetes capital of world.
Role of Governments:
•Federal government defines healthcare policies tailored for India through Ministry of health affairs.( e.g.: Pulse polio eradication program)
•IRDA acts as regulator governing the health insurance sector.
•Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)
–All employees earning less than 15,000 must be enrolled with both employees and employers contributing amounts.
–Employees can access free healthcare through its network of hospitals and dispensaries.
•Federal government provides super specialty services through organizations like AIIMS, JIPMER, etc.
•State governments through primary health care clinics and general hospitals. They act as implementers of federal policies like NHRM.
•Railways through its Lifeline Express (Hospital on Wheels) provides services in rural areas.
Role of Private sector and NGO’s
•Its still in nascent stage ever since Healthcare was opened during early 1990’s.
•In terms of capacity by no of beds, Apollo hospitals takes the top slot followed by Fortis healthcare.
•Provides affordable healthcare through their own strategic models like Narayana Hrudalaya and Sankara Netralaya.
•Helps in earning foreign exchange through medical tourism and export of generic drugs.
•Bill & Melinda Gates foundation and USAID are major foreign NGO’s helping India in Polio eradication and along with spreading awareness of AIDS through campaigns.

Key Challenges:
•Creation of infrastructure to increase the number of beds per person especially in rural areas.
•Better insurance coverage.
•Creation of IP’s like indigenous vaccines and molecules.
•Collaboration with private sector through PPP mode.
•Need to control excessive usage of pesticides to avoid cancer and other ailments.
•Creation of better educational opportunities for producing high quality medical and Para-medical staffs.
•Production of low cost medical equipment for better reach and diagnostic facilities.

Why it happens in India alone

For last two weeks, New Delhi was boiling with youth demanding action on the perpetrators of gang rape case. I support their demands but it’s more serious to analyse the root cause behind these cases.

The Indian society is divided into rich, middle and low by some people. For the last two sections of people the sole entertainment is only movies which showcases how the rich lead life. In reality also most of the rich kids enjoy the same before they get serious in life and carry forward their family legacy. This I have too seen personally.

But for the other classes, they want to imitate the rich fellows and lead a life like that. So when they don’t get the opportunity they pass lewd remarks on the women and for them all girls/women will be sluts. When they are confronted they get enraged or they are provoked by their rich due to their classy outfits.

With my words i’m neither supporting or against the any people and my view is also a point that has to be summed with other issues.  Kindly let me know your comments on how to ward of this evil from society

Reasons why you fall out with your manager…….

Lots been discussed how to develop a rapport with your manager, but never on why and how the relation becomes sour. Some experiences from my history.

1. Manager should be a leader not a politician.

2. AdiSankara in his Advaitha philosophy call the relation between guru and shisya as Shradda, but if it breaks you lose your interest in your work and slowly you will feel that something is being missed that is productivity.

3. Most managers consider you as a threat not as a friend and its was rightly said all your colleagues are friends.

4. He is the Lord and we are supposed to bear everything and should not speak a word against him or retaliate.

Most of my managers including my HoD were good and HoD once told me “If you do a mistake do it without a proof”, still i’m figuring what i did.

Diesel cars are not cheap..why?? Look below

With the price gap between unregulated petrol and subsidized diesel, we see many people are buying diesel powered cars and their perception is that diesel is cheap and so they will be spending less. Due to this companies are aggressively promoting so called highly pollutant diesel like ford figo, suzuki swift, etc,. But if you look into lot facts its not.

1. Diesel engine cars are more expensive than traditional petrol driven ones. Normally the gap is around 2 lakhs.

2. If we buy cars on loans, we have to pay more interest for them as they are expensive.

3. Traditionally diesel powered cars do have a high maintenance cost.

4. If you drive a diesel powered car for around 20k kms per year, you would be saving around 30,000 rupees with current prices and with assumed mileage of 20kms/litre.

5. You should drive this car for another 5 more years to reap the benefits of buying a diesel car which means by this time car reaches its shell life. Now you will boggled down by the maintenance expenses which will spiral upwards.

6. Last one is important Government of India proposed to levy a excise duty of 60000 rupees for diesel cars which will be huge for small car buyers where as the diesel guzzler SUV buyers don’t worry about this.

Why not to marry a Beautiful Girl?….

Every man dreams that he should get a beautiful girl in his life. To my opinion its a wild one and he will feel for it within days of his marriage. He will be possessive and starts to feel insecure as everyone’s focus will be constantly directed towards her. Simply because she is beautiful. While loving her before marriage he will be definitely be a very happy person, will be in cloud nine and more importantly he will be walking in a gethu manner. ( This was also said in Engeyum Eppodum by Jai.) She will add fuel to the fire by flaunting her beauty again and again.

I heard these beautiful  lines  in an English song “She don’t know that she is beautiful and that’s why she is beautiful” . Marry this kind of girls and rock on. All are my personal comments and i hope no one is offended by this.

My worst Nightmare

I was thinking to write this nightmare which happened to me when I was kid. Every time I think. I perspire and my body freezes with my thought process running out of control.

My father was working for a private bank on the banks of River Cauvery. The place which I lived was known as Pandamangalam, with the name derived from the visit of Pandava’s who were in the middle of their 13 year exile in the forests. Legends say Draupati prayed to Lord Krishna to have darshan and he showed in front of them and a temple stands there today for both of them with a huge irrigation canal passing besides it. This discreet village till today supplies betel leaves to as far as Mumbai for Pan.

I remember it was mid of May 1998, being a school kid I was enjoying the summer holidays which are hard to come now. After lot of pleading my parents bought me a brand new bright red Hero cycle, inspite of their weak financial condition. They bought me after months of budgeting my father’s meagre salary. I was in a cloud nine and he rode the bicycle from the nearby town to my village for a distance of 5 kms. I enjoyed the pillion ride on the bumpy road. On the next day, I was in the hot seat and my father was running behind me holding the carrier. The same happened to me for the next two days. Like what happens in cinema and ads he left his hold on the cycle which I didn’t realize and I bit dust when I realized he left me all alone. Happily it was not a terrible fall. Brim with confidence that I mastered the art of riding bicycle I took it and rode the cycle on the four rath streets of the village.

Little I realized was that the village was in the middle of the sand mining mafia’s route to smuggle out river sand from the river. I pedaled fast on the sloping part of the road hitting the speed which I wanted. I felt like I was cruising in the air. The road turned 45 degree and I realized too late that a sand laden lorry was coming towards me and I was confident that I’m going to die. I was totally numb and forgot to hit the brakes. I hit the bitumen gravel and fell from bicycle on the road infront of the lorry. I just closed eyes, God was Great as He saved me from the lorry running over my neck. When I opened the eyes , I was still under lorry just a small gap between my neck and tyres of lorry. The driver had a split second time to apply brakes and it came to halt just in time to save my life.

A mid aged women who was carrying a bundle of firewood, threw it on road and rushed to my rescue. She dragged me from the road and enquired me whether everything is fine. I was touched by her kindness and I left the place hoping that my parents won’t be aware of this thing.

I didn’t have guts to face my father and I lied to my mother about the bruises. I hit the bed early and woke up late hoping that my father would have left for the office. Little I realized was that a group of elders identified me at the spot as I frequented the temple with my father every weekend and they met him at home the late last night. They discussed about the near fatal crash and came to conclusion that I will be barred from riding bicycle till my legs touched the ground for balance. No monkey pedals which they called in Tamil Nadu. I took a sabbatical for nearly a year and was allowed to ride when the government came heavily and cracked its whip on the sand mafia.

Even though this chilling incident happened nearly 15 yrs before, it still gives night mare whenever I ride motor cycle. This made me never to ride fast and I’m always fearsome for me to travel above 70 km/hr which I have set as a threshold value based on my instinct. I still cherish the warmth and kindness of the village people which is totally absent in this city and I realized why my father always liked to work in rural and semi urban areas.

We the Indians and need for BUY INDIAN products

Indians are usually people who want things to last long, rough and durable. But the real fact is that if we are used to things like that means it will not boost the industrial production in any manner. The some of the misconceptions that are prevailing in the society are
1.People are misguided that always a product that is costlier will be of good quality and its worth, but its not true always.
2.Chinese products are cheap but they are not long lasting thing and recently there was lot of buzz due to the usage of toxic paint in most of toys which we people give as gifts to friends and relatives.Beware of this.
3.The prime aim of globalisation is to use to make available all the goods to all people and open the closed economies. But now USA which is considered as champion of globalisation has brought a lot initiatives such as "BUY AMERICAN" clause in recently given stimulus package to ailing US industries.
4.So the alternative is to go back to our independence movement which focussed on buying Indian goods,"SWADESI" movement.
5.I’m not telling all you people to buy only Indian products but go for Indian goods in wide scale by gradually reduce the foreign goods.
A simple example is instead of buying fair and lovely manufactured by Hindustan lever buy fairever manufactured by Cavin kare.Don’t show brand loyalty here as both are sunscreen creams having same chemicals.
SAVE INDIA BY BUYING INDIAN PRODUCTS AND IT SAVES VALUABLE FOREIGN EXCHANGE
