Connected Lookup and un-connnected lookups in Informatica

I was caught off-guard suddenly, when I was asked about the scenarios where connected and unconnected lookup is used in Informatica. I have given some of the scenarios and how to use the connected, un-connected lookups.

Generally a lookup is used to fetch a data from other relational table/flat file that is not available in the real source. For example consider the case that we have DeptId column in the EMP table which will be used as source but we need DeptName which may be present in DEPT table.  In such cases we can use the lookup transformation to the DEPT table and the condition for retrieval will be based the key column which is Dept.

Connected lookup is the same as mentioned above, the problem here is for each and every row in the source, it will lookup the value from the huge cache bringing down the performance if the volume of data to be processed is large.

Un-connected lookup is used where we need to look-up only for 1000 rows out of millions of rows (i.e) we are aware that we need to populate DeptName and there will be only 1000 rows meeting the functional condition. There may be also other case such as where we need to lookup only if the Salary is above 10000 and not lookup for other Salary values.

 We can use un-connected lookup by calling the lookup from an expression transformation with a parameter which will be to the input port in the lookup transformation. Always un-connected lookup will return a single value which may resemble a function.

An open letter to Mr.Chidambaram-Home Minister

Hello Mr.Chidambaram,

                You were appointed as Home minister of India by well respected Mr.Singh since you were the only person who could be believed, these where the words of the Wikipedia. But you are also rotten one among people who are always power hungry and cling on like a man eating tiger. You walked out of Congress in 1996 along with other guys to form Tamil Manila congress with the sole aim of not forming alliance with AIADMK which was corrupt at the time. Here i come to the point, if you are practising what you preach then you should severe all ties with shameful DMK. The magnitude of corruption and misuse of power by DMK is uncomparable with AIADMK.(Then it was just some tens of crores but now its running to lakhs of crores).If you are the same person who was 15 yrs ago, you must have breaken ties with DMK and you should go and meet Karuna’s gang in your private capacity at Maurya hotel in Delhi. I know that Karunanidi must have returned to Chennai since all formalities relating to his daughter’s release from Tihar is completed. I think you are not the same person since your business interests are going to be affected if you are not in power.

                I used to be proud Tamiiian wherever i visit our Indian motherland. Now the situation is different, i have to keep my head low with people telling “Acha,acha Raja ka saharse tum ayega”. Luckily the Tamil people have taught a good lesson by electing a good straight forward leader who is known for no non-sense approach. Karuna finding lame excuses that the aryans have planned to destroy dravidians. Remember that there is none to buy this and this is 21st century where people are educated. Even in rural parts thanks to free televison people are aware of spectrum. Some people thought Jaya as wife of MGR, but in north of the country now Kani, Karuna’s pet daughter is considered as wife of Raja.

When Anna Hazare was on relay fast for lok pal, you brought it to end by giving false promises. you can’t bring Baba Ramdev’s fast to an end by using brute force. You will bit the dust. Digvijay should be brought under control, if he says RSS,VHP are lending support and its communal then according to him Muslims,Christains are not interested to corruption. Then i will say Muslims are not supporting because most of the hawala operators and underworld are Muslims. Stop him from speaking against Hindus and stop him from playing second fiddle to Sonia.Tell Karuna that his days are numbered and nepotism will not favour him.
